Keep the Inner Word
Deuteronomy 4:2 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Deuteronomy 4 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse commands not to add to or diminish from the word of the LORD so you may keep His commandments. It emphasizes fidelity to the inner law as the condition for obedience.
Neville's Inner Vision
Viewed as a state of consciousness, the commandment is not a distant decree but the living law of your own I AM. Do not add to it or subtract from it, for to do so would be to tamper with the inner reality you have agreed to embody. Your imagination is the verb of this law; when you revise the word to fit fear, doubt, or lack, you place a veil between your present awareness and the fulfilled state you seek. The ‘word’ is what you consistently affirm in the quiet of your consciousness; to alter it is to signal to the subconscious that the condition is conditional or uncertain. Instead, keep the word whole and unmodified, and let your feeling reinforce its truth. In such fidelity, you move from wishing for the commandments to living them as your own inward order. The true obedience is alignment of inner speech with the I AM you are; if you maintain integrity—no new additions, no subtraction—the outward life naturally reflects the kept law.
Practice This Now
Assume the state that the inner word is complete; revise any fragmenting thought until it feels real. Then rest in the certainty that your consciousness is the keeper of the law.
