Inner Mountain: The Silent Voice
Deuteronomy 4:11-12 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Deuteronomy 4 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The passage depicts an encounter where Israelites near the mountain witness fire and darkness, and hear God's words spoken from within the fire, without any visible form.
Neville's Inner Vision
Picture this moment as a vision of your own inner mountain. The mount is your consciousness, the fire and thick darkness your concentrated energy of attention. The people are states of mind standing in awe at the boundary between sight and awareness. When the LORD speaks from the fire, it is the I AM within you declaring the timeless commands—truths about conduct, loyalty, and holiness, not external rules but the inner ordering of your life. You hear the words without seeing a similitude because the form is unnecessary; the essence is an inner law proclaimed to your awareness. The fire is not punishment but purification, drawing you into a sharper alignment with your divine nature. To enter this state, you need not chase signs; you shift your identity to the I AM, the constant presence that can hear and obey without image. In this moment, you are invited to leave behind lesser images and accept the inner voice as your guiding covenant. Your acceptance of this voice seals your allegiance to a higher order of life.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Assume the I AM as your inner voice now; revise all sense of distance from God to feel that you are hearing the command within. Feel-it-real: align your life with that inner law, and let loyalty to the inner covenant guide every choice.
