Inner Jealousy and Faith
Deuteronomy 32:19-21 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Deuteronomy 32 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
God watches Israel’s worship of idols with jealousy and anger. He declares He will hide His face and observe their end because they are a faithless, forward generation.
Neville's Inner Vision
Picture the scene as a waking state of consciousness. The Lord is not a distant power but the I AM within your own mind, noticing the images you have entertained as gods and vanities. When you worship what is not God, you awaken jealousy in your inner self, a signal that your present state has outgrown its old idols. The line I will hide my face from them becomes a quiet invitation to withdraw attention from the old image until you are ready to see differently. They are a froward generation, children in whom is no faith, which you can translate as a belief that your true nature is somewhere apart from the I AM. The remedy is not struggle but revision: replace the idol with the living image of your own spiritual reality, and allow your imagination to lead you to a repurchase of faith. Your present life then moves toward a new people—toward yourself as the beloved creation of the One, not a stranger to God. Let your imagination create the conditions that reflect your awakened trust, and watch as the outer world begins to echo the inner conversion.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly and assume the state of unwavering faith as your present reality. Feel the I AM within you and repeat inwardly, I am faith; I dwell in God, until this inner conviction becomes a felt sensation in your chest.
