Biblical Context

Moses tells Joshua to be strong and courageous because he must lead the people into the land; the Lord will go before him, be with him, not fail, and not forsake him.

Neville's Inner Vision

To me, this script is a map of consciousness. Moses calls Joshua—the mover within me that ventures forth with courage into the promised inner land. Be strong and of good courage is a command to my assumed state, not to my body; I am to go with this people—the thoughts and faculties—into the land the Lord has sworn to give them, the interior inheritance I now claim. The Lord, He it is that doth go before thee, is the Presence I am aware of as I step; He will be with me, He will not fail me, neither forsake me: fear not, neither be dismayed. My task is to trust the arrangement of consciousness: wherever I place my attention, there my reality follows. Providence and guidance are not distant events but the truth of my inner state, already established by belief. When I align with this Presence, I awaken to the land within me and begin to inherit it.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: sit quietly, assume the I AM goes before you. Repeat, 'The Lord goes before me; I will not fear,' until it feels real.
