Inner Exile, Inner King
Deuteronomy 28:36-37 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Deuteronomy 28 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse speaks of being brought to a foreign land and of serving other gods, leading to a state of astonishment and being a proverb among nations. It points to consequences that arise when the outer life reflects discord with the true inner state.
Neville's Inner Vision
All scripture speaks to the I AM within; Deuteronomy 28:36–37 describes a state in which the outer ruler and the outer land mirror a chapter of the mind that has forgotten its true king. The unknown nation is not a geography but a mind-turned-away from its source; the king you set over you is a habit or idea you have trusted to govern your life. When you drink from the wells of 'wood and stone'—false idols of fear, pride, or attachment—you are serving images rather than the living I AM. The judgment that you become an astonishment or byword among nations is simply the inner reflection of a consciousness out of alignment with its divine order. The remedy is not to fight the world but to revise the state of consciousness by assumption: claim the king as the I AM’s expression. See that you already stand wherever you imagine yourself to stand; your outer conditions shift only as your inner state renews itself. Return to the awareness that you govern by the one Lord within, and the exile dissolves into a remembered homeland of freedom.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume the state of the true king within; affirm 'I am the I AM, and I govern my life from within.' Then revise any idol thoughts to align with this inner ruler, and dwell in the felt sense of that alignment for a few minutes.
