The Inner Commandments
Deuteronomy 27:1 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Deuteronomy 27 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Moses, with the elders of Israel, commands the people to observe all the commandments given this day. The emphasis is obedience to covenantal law as a living inner discipline.
Neville's Inner Vision
From the Neville lens, the scene is not about external decrees but the inner state of consciousness. The 'people' are your trains of thought, and the 'elders' are your accumulated memories; the 'commandments' are inner laws you choose to live by. 'This day' marks the present moment in which you decide to align. To 'keep' the commandments is to keep a steady alignment with the I AM—your essential awareness—so that every thought, feeling, and choice flows from that center. When you imagine yourself already obeying, you are not obeying God from without; you are returning to your own sovereignty of awareness, where the law is felt as truth in you. The outward order of life responds to this inner order, so the world moves to reflect your inner covenant. The practice is to decide on one inner principle to hold today, revise any belief that contradicts it, and dwell in the feeling of its reality. In this way the outer creation becomes a faithful mirror of the inner command.
Practice This Now
Take a moment, close your eyes, and choose one inner law (e.g., faithfulness). Assume you are already living it this day; feel it real. Then declare inwardly, 'I keep this command now,' and let that state saturate your thoughts and surroundings.
