Remember Your Freedom, Do Justice

Deuteronomy 24:17-18 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Deuteronomy 24 in context

Scripture Focus

17Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, nor of the fatherless; nor take a widow's raiment to pledge:
18But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
Deuteronomy 24:17-18

Biblical Context

The passage commands fair judgment toward the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and forbids taking their clothing as a pledge. It reminds you that you were once enslaved in Egypt, redeemed by God, and thus bound to mercy and justice.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within the theatre of your mind, the 'stranger' and the 'fatherless' symbolize inner states you meet, not distant people. Do not pervert judgment—do not let your thoughts profit from another's vulnerability or clothe coercion in legitimacy. Remember you were a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence; this memory is a revelation of your true nature: you are already free in the I AM. Therefore the command to do this thing is a command to align your inner state with mercy, to reform the way you 'see' and treat others. When you view others as extensions of your own consciousness, the impulse to take their garment for pledge dissolves, and your acts become acts of justice born from redemption. Your outer world will reflect the inner memory of liberation as you revise your scene—assume that you are the rescuer, the protector, the fair judge, and you will feel the reality of that role. Practically, you can practice by quietly affirming, 'I am the I AM, and I choose mercy as my reality.'

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the state of I AM already rendering just judgments and freeing all who seek mercy. Then act today by offering fair treatment or practical help to someone in need.
