Boundaries Within, Giants Without

Deuteronomy 2:9-12 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Deuteronomy 2 in context

Scripture Focus

9And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.
10The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims;
11Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims.
12The Horims also dwelt in Seir beforetime; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.
Deuteronomy 2:9-12

Biblical Context

God instructs not to distress Moab or fight for their land, while recounting ancient peoples described as giants. Israel's possession is the land the Lord has given them, a divine grant rather than a result of outward warfare.

Neville's Inner Vision

The text invites us to see boundaries and possession as states of consciousness. Moab represents a restless, defensive mood toward change—an inner stance that would prolong conflict rather than yield to awareness. The Emims, Anakims, and Horims symbolize towering beliefs and memories that loom large in the mind, but they are not external enemies to be defeated; they are thoughts to be reinterpreted. The land allotted to the children of Lot stands for an inner field of awareness already provided by the I AM, accessible not by conquest but by alignment with God's provision. When the Lord says, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle, He is guiding you to stop pressing outward and to rest in your true identity. Your possession is an inner kingdom you already hold; with this conviction, outer events respond to your inner alignment. The clause 'as Israel did unto the land of his possession' becomes a reminder that your practice is to acknowledge and dwell in the inner land your I AM has granted you.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Assume the inner land is yours now. Close your eyes, breathe, and repeat, 'I AM the possessor of my inner land,' until you feel the boundary of your awareness settle; then revise anxious thoughts as 'I release the battle and rest in the land I possess.'
