Inner Worship: Sun and Moon Within
Deuteronomy 17:3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Deuteronomy 17 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse warns against worshiping other gods or celestial bodies—the sun, moon, or host of heaven—images not commanded by God. It calls for fidelity to the worship God has specified.
Neville's Inner Vision
To Neville, the 'other gods' are not distant deities but rival states of consciousness contending for attention. The sun, moon, and host of heaven become inner pictures your mind worships when you invest belief in lack, fate, or separation from the I AM. God is the I AM within you, the unchanging awareness that holds the world into being. When you 'serve' these idols, you are conceding to a belief that you are smaller than the one Power, letting outer circumstances govern your inner state. The commandment speaks not of temple geography but of inner allegiance: align your mind with the living presence of the I AM, and all appearances trend toward that reality. Your true worship is intimacy with this inner God, which dissolves the supposed power of sun and moon images. The moment you recognize that your imagination is the instrument through which you experience life, you can revise any belief by declaring: I am the I AM; these images are but activities in consciousness, not rulers. In this light, obedience becomes fidelity to your inner state rather than outward ritual.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and name an inner image you have worshipped (a fear, lack, or craving); revise by silently affirming I AM and feel that the inner presence replaces the image until it feels real.
