Deuteronomy 13:6-9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Close relationships may tempt you to worship other gods; the text commands you to refuse. It declares loyalty to the true God without compromise.
Neville's Inner Vision
Your true self is the I AM, and the brother or friend who tempts you to worship other gods is really a belief arising from a state of consciousness, not a person out there. The 'gods round about' are the competing thoughts and identifications in your inner theater. The command 'thou shalt not consent' means you refuse to identify with that belief, to let it govern your life. The instruction to 'kill him' is symbolic: you abort the mental image that would pull you away from your divine self, you make the first choice in your inner court, and you invite the whole inner community to align with your decision. By acknowledging the I AM within as sole allegiance, you cast out the temptation at its root—the imaginal seed of doubt. When you keep your attention on that one truth, the sense of separation dissolves, and the life you live follows your inner decree. This is not about fear but about fidelity to your essential nature, a practice that modern inner life can adopt today.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Assume you have already chosen the I AM as your sole allegiance. Revise the inner scene to reflect unwavering loyalty to Truth, and feel that fidelity as your living reality.
