Inner Light for the Desolate Temple
Daniel 9:16-17 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Daniel 9 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Daniel pleads for God to turn away wrath from Jerusalem and to forgive the people's sins. He asks the Lord to let His face shine on the desolate sanctuary for the Lord's sake.
Neville's Inner Vision
Let Daniel's cry be your own plank in the sea of consciousness. Jerusalem stands for your centeredness, the temple within. The anger and fury are not external judgments but the stubborn habits of fear and lack that you have accepted as real. By praying 'according to thy righteousness' you re-anchor yourself in the I AM and pretend the judgment is already reversed. The request to 'cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate' is a call to imagination: you imagine the inner temple lit, your thoughts clear, your feelings warm, your sense of self restored. The desolation yields to the light that you repeatedly assume and feel. The phrase 'for the Lord's sake' is a reminder that this is not to please an external deity but to honor the living I AM within you, whose only desire is unity and peace. Intercession becomes a mental practice: you offer your desire, you enter the feeling of its fulfillment, and you dwell there until the outer life begins to reflect the inner radiance.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Sit, close your eyes, and assume the state of the sanctuary already illuminated; dwell in the feeling of light filling your inner temple for five minutes, then whisper 'for the Lord's sake' as a seal of inner turning.
