Inner Unity Beyond Labels
Colossians 3:9-11 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Colossians 3 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The passage tells you to stop lying and to shed the old self with its deeds, putting on the new self renewed in the knowledge of the Creator's image. In this renewal, outward labels vanish and all people are one in Christ.
Neville's Inner Vision
Lie not one to another is a command to drop the habit of living as your old self, for that 'old man' is but the remembered self you have outgrown. You have already put him off by the very act of turning inward and refusing to identify with the past deeds. The 'new man' is not a future facade but your present state of awakened consciousness, renewed in knowledge after the image of the Creator. Do not seek unity as a distant project; recognize that unity is your current, inner condition. The differences of Greek or Jew, circumcision or uncircumcision, barbarian or Scythian, bond or free, are evidences of a mind that forgets its true nature. In truth, Christ is all, and in all. When you inhabit this truth, you cease to divide and start to live as the one indwelling Presence. The entire verse is a reminder that creation is ongoing from within, and that renewal is a mental act accessible to you here and now. Your awareness can include all people as expressions of the one Life.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly, close your eyes, and silently declare, 'I am the new man, renewed in knowledge after the image of Him who created me.' Feel the oneness permeate every face, every scene, until separation dissolves as Christ is all.
