Biblical Context
Colossians 2:20-23 speaks of dying to the world’s rudiments and not letting external rules and human doctrines govern the self; outward ascetic displays do not bring true spiritual fulfillment.
Neville's Inner Vision
Death with Christ is a shift of consciousness, not a bodily negation. To be dead to the rudiments of the world is to cease identifying with its laws as reality and to awaken to the I AM that you are. The ordinances—touch not, taste not, handle not—are the mind’s old alphabet, rules learned for safety and control, which perish with the using because they are not the life but the shadow of fear in the flesh. When you, in imagination, accept that you are already co-crucified with Christ, you remove yourself from the scene of these dogmas. The commandments and doctrines of men reveal wisdom only in will-worship and humility worn as outward display; true life arrives not by appearances but by aligning the inner state with God-present awareness. The inner Christ-consciousness fulfills the flesh not by denial but by the alignment of mind with divine reality. Through revision—feeling it real that you are beyond the world’s codes—the body follows and the world’s rules lose their force.
Practice This Now
Assume the feeling of being dead to the world's rules this moment. Declare 'I am free from ordinances' and imagine stepping into Christ-consciousness.
