Biblical Context
Colossians 1:15-18 presents Christ as the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, through whom all things were made and consist. He is the head of the body, the church, so that in all things Christ might have preeminence.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider that the Christ of Colossians is not distant; it is the living state by which I am aware. The image of the invisible God is the living I AM I now assume for myself, the firstborn of every creature through whom creation comes into view. By this I AM are all things created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, and by this same awareness they are sustained. He is before all things, and by him all things consist; thus my thoughts and sensations are held in orderly harmony by the same principle. And he is the head of my body, the church—the beginning, the firstborn from the dead—that in all things he might have preeminence. To dwell in that realization, I permit the inner ruler to govern the outer; the outer world conforms to the inner image. The preeminence spoken of is the felt reality that I am one with Source, and that everything declares the sovereign dominion of this inner Christ.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Assume the state 'I am the image of the invisible God, the head of my body now.' Feel this as real for five minutes, revising any sense of separation until your outer world reflects the inner ruler.
