Biblical Context
Amaziah the priest confronts Amos, accusing him of dangerous words; Amos prophesies that Jeroboam will die and Israel will be carried away. Amaziah tells him to prophesy in Judah; Amos replies that he was not a prophet until the LORD called him from following the flock to prophesy to Israel.
Neville's Inner Vision
Let Amaziah's defense be seen as the mind clinging to status, afraid that truth cannot endure the land of fear. Yet the LORD—your I AM—took Amos from tending the flock because truth must move through you regardless of credential. The call to prophesy is not a schedule; it is a state of consciousness. When you align with that inner voice, the fear of exile fades—the exile is only a belief that you are apart from your own power. The sword that threatens Jeroboam is the cutting away of stale self-images; the prophet need not seek approval from Bethel, for the I AM approves. Your job is to accept the inner appointment and speak as the seer within. The outward scene mirrors your inward arrangement: the more you feel and act from that divine impulse, the more your world rearranges to reflect your true calling. So listen, answer, and declare to your own people Israel: I am here, I am called, I speak from the I AM, and reality must adjust to this truth.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume the state of the seer; silently affirm, 'I am the voice the I AM calls forth.' Then picture yourself prophesying to your inner Israel, and allow your belief in your own calling to soften any resistance.
