Ivory Beds, Inner Awakening
Amos 6:4-7 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Amos 6:4-7 portrays people luxuriating on ivory beds, playing music, and drinking richly while ignoring the affliction of Joseph; judgment comes as captivity and the end of their feast.
Neville's Inner Vision
Here the luxury is not a thing but a state of consciousness. When I lie upon beds of ivory in my imagination, I am signaling a belief that my comfort is separate from the whole. The affliction of Joseph is the inner call to acknowledge another part of me—the brother within who suffers when I refuse to share my abundance with all. In this view, the music and the wine become symbols of a created story I tell myself to justify exclusion. The first captivity begins the moment I deny that my true wealth is the I AM- aware unity of all beings; neglecting Joseph is a self-imposed exile from that unity. The remedy is a simple revision: claim the I AM as the sole reality and imagine caring for every part of me that suffers as if it were myself. When I feel the truth of unity—when the heart loosens around judgment—the banquet ends, and my outer world reflects a renewed inner peace that has never left me.
Practice This Now
In a quiet moment, assume the feeling I am the I AM, awake to all suffering and abundance. Revise your inner scene by exchanging ivory beds for a single seat of awareness and bless Joseph with your prosperity.
