Inner Worship Beyond Ritual
Amos 4:4-5 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Amos 4 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Amos indicts the people for offering sacrifices while their inner life remains untransformed. The call is for true worship that begins in the heart, not merely in ritual acts.
Neville's Inner Vision
Bethel and Gilgal are not distant places but inner states; when Amos says 'come to Bethel, and transgress,' he points to approaching your sanctuary with a mind still trapped in separation, so outward sacrifices remain empty. The Lord GOD does not condemn sacrifices; He condemns a life that treats ritual as substitute for repentance. The leaven in your offerings is the belief that you must perform to be worthy or loved. To reverse this you must shift your assumption: you are the I AM, the dwelling place of God, and every act flows from that consciousness. Your daily acts—tithes of time, sacrifices of thought—become meaningful when infused with inner thanksgiving that is already accepted by the divine within you. When you revise your inner state, the outward ritual loses its weight and becomes a symbol of your union with the I AM. The path is through imagination: see yourself as that God-aware I AM and let your life reflect the truth you accept.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and revise the verse in your mind to: 'I come to Bethel and transgress no more; I offer my offerings from the I AM in pure thanksgiving.' Feel it-real by resting in that inner state today.
