Amos 3:5-12 Inner Judgment

Amos 3:5-12 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Amos 3 in context

Scripture Focus

5Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?
6Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
7Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
8The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?
9Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.
10For they know not to do right, saith the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.
11Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; An adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.
12Thus saith the LORD; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch.
Amos 3:5-12

Biblical Context

Amos 3:5-12 speaks of judgment coming to Israel, using snares, trumpets, and a roaring lion as inner symbols. The verses show that what happens outwardly reflects inner life, and that God reveals truth to those who listen.

Neville's Inner Vision

Think of Amos not as distant history but as the law of your own consciousness. The snares, trumpets, lions, and tumults are inner movements, not events 'out there.' When you feel a snare in your life, remember: surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. The 'Lord' is the I AM within you; when you invite revelation, your inner lion roars and you suddenly prophesy—meaning you give form to a state by imagining its truth. The palaces of Ashdod and Egypt are the structures of your mind, the mountains of Samaria the boundaries of your self-concept; the oppressed in the midst thereof are fear and injustice within. The adversary round about the land is the limiting belief that you are small. Yet the verse ends with a promise: what is in your consciousness can be drawn into outward form. By locating the cause in your own inner state, you invite a shift that makes discord yield to harmony. Your inner shepherd—the I AM—tends to the lion's captured prey by your unwavering assumption of wholeness.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the I AM within you as king of your life. Declare, 'This is done,' and feel the reality of your desired change as already true.
