Think of the land as the field of your own consciousness, and the round-about adversary as a false sense of outer danger you have invited by identifying with fear; in this gospel, God is the I AM perceiving, imagining, and thereby creating; the moment you feel the fortress crumble, you are invited to turn the gaze inward and imagine a new state: the I AM encircling you, surrounding every side with quiet power; the strength mentioned in the verse is simply your awareness energized by a new assumption; let the palaces you once prized become symbols of a larger inner kingdom awaiting your claim; when you revise and feel it real that the outer world is but a projection, the defense and destroyer called 'adversary' dissolves; do not plead for mercy from a world that remains only a mirror; instead, assume the truth of your complete sovereignty and watch the inner citadel rise, intact, as your heart remembers who you are.
