Amos 1:6-7 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Amos 1 in context

Scripture Focus

6Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom:
7But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:
Amos 1:6-7

Biblical Context

The oracle speaks of judgment on Gaza for its transgressions and promises punishment. It foresees a fire sweeping the wall and devouring the palaces.

Neville's Inner Vision

Amos's oracle speaks not of a distant geography but of your inner state. The Gaza named there is the wall you have built between you and oneness, the sense of separation you still entertain. The 'three transgressions' are the stubborn habits of thought that refuse to be forgiven, the 'four' a fullness of insistence that keeps you in bondage. When the LORD says punishment will come, it is the inner law you experience whenever you identify with a thought contrary to I AM. The fire on the wall is not vengeance but the purifying effect of consciousness acting through imagination. Exile and return describe your inner wandering from alignment back to awareness; you may feel banished by fear, yet you always have the power to will yourself home. The practical remedy is to revise by assuming a new state: feel and declare, 'I AM,' and imagine that the wall is dissolving, the palaces of fear burning away, and the captives of doubt being released. In that decisive act, you close the gap between judgment and mercy and restore the inner palace to harmony with God within.

Practice This Now

Sit quietly and repeat, 'I AM' as the only state. Then revise a recent grievance by affirming, 'I AM whole, and this fear has no power over me.'
