Biblical Context
In Damascus, a disciple named Ananias receives a vision from the Lord directing him to seek Saul. Ananias obeys, entering Saul’s house and laying hands on him so Saul may receive his sight.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within Acts 9:10-12, the 'Lord' speaking to Ananias is the I AM in you, your own waking awareness. Damascus and the street called Straight symbolize states of consciousness and the clear path of mind you must walk when you hear the inner invitation. Saul, though outwardly a persecutor in the story, represents a stubborn aspect of your mind awaiting revision—prisoner to old beliefs. His prayer signals receptivity rather than resistance; the vision of Ananias coming to lay hands is your present intention, the willingness of your attention to touch the closed parts and release light. Ananias’s answer, 'Here I am, Lord,' is the moment you say yes to inner guidance and thus become the instrument of healing. The act of laying on hands is symbolic of applying your focused awareness to a belief until it yields new sight. The promise, that Saul might receive his sight, becomes a page for you: your own mind regains clear seeing as you align with the straight path and obey the inner directive. The verse invites you to claim work and vocation as the outward expression of an inward awakening.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: In a quiet moment, imagine you are Ananias answering, 'Here I am, Lord,' then picture yourself going to the 'house' of your old belief and laying hands on it with steady attention until the scene brightens with new sight—feel it real now.
