Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The twelve apostolic leaders decide not to abandon the word of God in favor of serving tables, and they appoint seven men full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom to oversee that work, while committing themselves to prayer and the ministry of the word.
Neville's Inner Vision
See Acts 6:2-4 as a map of inner life. The twelve are a state of consciousness that refuses to sacrifice inner truth for busywork. To 'leave the word of God' is to withdraw attention from the inner word that creates. The seven men—honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom—symbolize seven capacities you appoint to supervise your outer affairs, so your attention can remain with prayer and the ministry of the word. The pledge, 'we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word,' is a firm decision to inhabit awareness, to let the inner word shape perception and action. When you live by this, you are not neglecting service but sanctifying it—your deeds reflect inner truth as you keep your mind open to divine guidance. The outer world reorganizes around the I AM that prays and speaks within you, uniting activity and stillness by the sovereign act of imagination.
Practice This Now
Practice: Sit in quiet awareness and declare, 'I give myself continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.' Then imagine selecting seven inner faculties to oversee daily tasks, freeing your inner I AM to govern with wisdom and love.
