Biblical Context
Paul recounts his Gentile ministry; the believers glorify the Lord. Rumors arise that he teaches Jews among the Gentiles to forsake Moses and to stop circumcising their children or walking in customs.
Neville's Inner Vision
Paul’s report is the outward sign of an inner movement. The Gentiles represent a field where the I AM, the living God within, expands consciousness beyond former boundaries. The Jews who believe and are zealous for the law symbolize the mind’s loyal attachment to established forms; their zeal demonstrates the mind’s power to organize reality. The accusation that he teaches Jews among the Gentiles to forsake Moses points to a deeper truth: the old forms are not annihilated but fulfilled in the living relation to God within. In your soul, do not fear abandoning the outer shell; allow the inner Law to govern all outward acts. The circumcision of the heart is the true rite, while outward customs merely point the way. When you recognize that God moves through you as the I AM, you see unity between apparent opposites: law and faith, form and freedom, Jew and Gentile. The rumor dissolves as you rest in the certainty that your consciousness is the moving power, and obedience to the truth within is the only command you truly follow.
Practice This Now
Imaginative_act: Close your eyes and assume you are the I AM moving through all people, laws, and customs inside you. Revise the sense of separation by declaring 'the inner law fulfills all outward obedience,' and feel the wholeness now.
