Read Acts 16 in context

Scripture Focus

13And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
Acts 16:13

Biblical Context

On the sabbath, they go to the riverside where prayer is customary, sit down, and speak to the women who gather there.

Neville's Inner Vision

Notice that Acts shows the disciples stepping out of the ordinary scene into a riverside space—not to host a debate about doctrine, but to align their mind with prayer. In Neville's terms, the sabbath is a resting-state of consciousness—the awareness that God, the I AM, is present—and prayer becomes the act of aligning with the feeling of the wish fulfilled. The riverside is a stream of life flowing through your consciousness, a symbol for dynamic awareness; the women gathered there are the receptive facets of mind ready to hear truth when the listener has quieted his or her own demands. By seating themselves and speaking, they demonstrate that outward encounter arises from inward state: once one trusts in the inner dialogue and acts from a completed state, the outward scene follows—voices, opportunities, and partnerships appear as signs of a mind at rest in its own truth. The mission is domestic rather than external, a witnessing of a new inner state becoming visible in daily life.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and imagine standing by a quiet river within your mind. Assume you already possess your deepest desire, and speak to it as if it were true, letting the feeling of fulfillment rise and guide your day.
