Biblical Context
Acts 13:20-23 records Israel’s leadership moving from the period of judges to a king, then to David, whom God calls a man after His own heart. It concludes by declaring that David’s seed would bear a Saviour, Jesus.
Neville's Inner Vision
Viewed through the Neville lens, the sequence is not a mere chronology but a map of your inner states. The 'judges' and the demand for a king symbolize the restless mind seeking outward control; when God 'gave unto them Saul,' He yields to the dominant pattern the mind is ready to entertain. The removal of Saul marks the moment when this outward form is outgrown, making room for a new, inner authority. Then God raises up David, a king 'after mine own heart,' indicating a consciousness that aligns with the divine will rather than personal ambition. David’s seed points to the line of Christ within you, the living Saviour promised by the inner word. The true Kingdom of God, therefore, is not a political realm but the regulation of your entire life by the I AM—awareness that governs from within. Jesus, the Saviour, represents the Christ in your present awareness that appears when you finally consent to the inner rule. You are being invited to see that history is your inner history, and your outer world is a reflection of your alignment with the divine will.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly and revise your state by declaring 'I am the I AM, the ruler of my inner kingdom'; feel the old Saul pattern dissolve and the heart-kingdom of David awaken, with Jesus as the living Saviour now arising within.
