Power, Witness, and Ascension

Acts 1:8-11 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Acts 1 in context

Scripture Focus

8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
Acts 1:8-11

Biblical Context

Jesus promises power through the Holy Spirit to be witnesses everywhere. Then he ascends, and angels declare that he will return in the same way.

Neville's Inner Vision

All the chapters of Acts are but your inner states moving to a new conviction. When he says you shall receive power after the Holy Ghost comes upon you, this is the moment your awareness lights up. The Holy Ghost is your alive, listening I AM, the inner sympathy that quickens your imagination. Witnessing me in Jerusalem, Judaea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the earth is simply the widening of your inner life from the small circle of identity to the totality of your being. The ascent—the lifting up of Jesus—speaks of your inner ascent beyond limitation; the cloud that receives him from sight is the shifting of attention from form to the formless, from memory to present awareness. The two men in white apparel are your inner guides, reminding you not to gaze outward but to recognize that the return of Jesus is the realization of your own unconditioned self. When you believe here, you have already experienced the end you seek; the event is your own awakening, now.

Practice This Now

Imitate the disciples' reception of power by assuming the state 'I AM awake now.' Close your eyes, feel the inner wind of power, and imagine yourself witnessing from your own inner Jerusalem. If you catch yourself gazing outward, revise, 'Jesus is returned in me now' and let that felt truth fill you.
