The Inner Crown Emerges

2 Samuel 5:4-9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Samuel 5 in context

Scripture Focus

4David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.
5In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.
6And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, David cannot come in hither.
7Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David.
8And David said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind, that are hated of David's soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.
9So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.
2 Samuel 5:4-9

Biblical Context

The passage traces David’s rise to kingship, first in Judah then over all Israel, and his conquest of Zion, symbolizing the establishment of inner kingship.

Neville's Inner Vision

David's rise in this text is the inner rise of your own consciousness. When you hear that he was thirty years old and began to reign, you hear the signal of mature awareness stepping into its throne. Judah's seven years, and Israel's thirty-three, describe your local and wider alignment of states of mind—areas you affirm as yours. The march on Jerusalem and the Jebusites is I AM moving through the old gates of fear, the belief that you cannot enter your own city. Yet David takes Zion—the stronghold—and proclaims it the city of David within. The decree about the blind and the lame is the old posture that says you cannot come in here. But I AM, the king in you, conquers it, and you dwell in the fort, calling it the city of David. You build round about from Millo inward, expanding your inner circumference until your whole consciousness enjoys the reign of peace and order.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Assume the inner king now; feel the throne in your chest; visualize entering Zion and see the walls rise around you.
