David's Inner Compass
2 Samuel 5:23-25 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 2 Samuel 5 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
David seeks guidance from the LORD. He is told to circle behind the enemy and wait for a sign before advancing.
Neville's Inner Vision
Thus the scene is a drama of consciousness, not history. The mulberry trees are inner signs; the sound in their tops is a vibration in awareness that whispers, now is the turn to move, not by force, but by alignment. David's inquiry is the vigilant asking of the I AM within. The command Thou shalt not go up, but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees, is the instruction to adopt a different orientation in mind: bypass the obvious cliff and circle to the unseen flank. When you hear the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, you are signaled that the I AM is present, and steps must be taken in the right timing. Then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host—meaning your inner assurance goes before your outward action, clearing resistance. And David did so, demonstrating obedience to inner law; the victory followed from alignment, not from impetus alone.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: In stillness, assume the posture of one guided by the inner sound and say, I move when the inner sign appears. Visualize circling behind the visible problem and stepping forward only as the sign comes, knowing the I AM goes before me.
