Reigning Within: The Inner King

2 Samuel 4:6-7 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Samuel 4 in context

Scripture Focus

6And they came thither into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat; and they smote him under the fifth rib: and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.
7For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night.
2 Samuel 4:6-7

Biblical Context

Two men enter the house and, under the pretense of fetching wheat, strike the king in his bed, kill him, and behead him, carrying the head away through the night.

Neville's Inner Vision

In the inner drama of your mind, the king represents the I AM, the sovereign awareness that declares I am. The house is your state of consciousness; the bedchamber is your present thought. When 'they' smite him under the fifth rib, this is a moment when a stubborn belief or fear pierces the heart, attempting to dethrone the king. The beheading and carrying the head away symbolize cutting off the life of the old self-narrative, while the long night of the plain shows the persistence of that dream as you walk through wakefulness. This is not punishment but a signal that you are waking from a worn-out story. By knowing the king already reigns as I AM, you revise the scene from destruction to liberation, letting new awareness take the throne.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, breathe into the chest, and affirm: I AM the king who reigns now. See the old narrative fade and feel the inner sovereignty restored as the I AM sits on the throne of your mind.
