Inner Justice and Renewal
2 Samuel 4:12 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 2 Samuel 4 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse describes David commanding the execution of Ishbosheth's murderers, their bodies displayed, and Ishbosheth's head buried in Abner's tomb.
Neville's Inner Vision
In the realm of consciousness, David stands as the I AM—the living awareness that reigns within. The slain murderers symbolize old habits, fears, and false identities that once ruled the mind; to cut off their hands and feet is to sever the power of those patterns and stop acting them out. The display over the pool of Hebron points to the subconscious where images and memories pool, inviting you to witness the results of your thought-forms. Taking Ishbosheth's head and burying it in Abner's sepulcher represents surrendering the rival self—the thought-form that would set itself up apart from the I AM—into the tomb of a trusted memory, allowing it to rest in the past. When the rightful king—your higher self—enters, the old order is cast down, and the Kingdom of God is reestablished as your present awareness. This is not vengeance in a carnal sense, but the inner law of justice that makes you anew when you align with the I AM and let go of the attachments that no longer serve you.
Practice This Now
Assume that the old fear and rival self have been severed and buried; feel the I AM reigning now. Silently declare, 'I AM the ruler of my consciousness,' and observe the new sense of quiet authority settling within you.
