Biblical Context
2 Samuel 3:22–25 shows David’s camp returning with spoil while Abner leaves in peace; Joab confronts the king, accusing Abner of deception and of revealing David’s movements. The scene unfolds as a study in inner states: outer appearances mirror inner trust or fear, and true discernment arises when one aligns with inner peace rather than suspicion.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within you, there is a single I AM perceiving all. Abner’s peaceful departure is not a man slipping from a political scene; it is a symbol of a part of your mind withdrawing from the urge to control outcomes and to pry into every movement. Joab’s charge that Abner came to deceive you is the ego’s rumor about the supposed hidden moves of life. It is not Truth, but a fear-based interpretation that aims to 'know' all things, to secure the future by grasping the present. David, the inner king, remains unshaken, for he knows that no external compliance or threat can disturb the inner harmony once the mind rests in its unity with God. The great spoil—victory and provision—appears in the outer world; yet the deeper reality is the alignment of perception with the I AM. When Abner goes in peace, it indicates the inner disposition is not at war with itself. The Kingdom of God is within: truth and discernment arise when you refuse to identify with fear and choose faithfulness to your true Self.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: For five minutes, breathe and revise the scene in your mind, affirming: 'Abner leaves in peace; nothing in my life is attempting to deceive me; I am guided by the inner king.' Feel that conviction as already true.
