2 Samuel 21:17 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Samuel 21 in context

Scripture Focus

17But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel.
2 Samuel 21:17

Biblical Context

Abishai helps David against the Philistine; the people vow that he shall not go out to battle again so as not to quench the light of Israel.

Neville's Inner Vision

Beloved, this scene is a map of your inner kingdom. Abishai, the steadfast guard, comes to David and defeats the Philistine; the people's oath that he shall go no more into battle is the inner decision that this state of consciousness must not waste its power in endless strife. The light of Israel is the living awareness—the I AM—shining through your mental realm. When you interpret Abishai as the function within you that restrains the ego's hungry battles, you see the outer conflict as symbolic of inner fear. The Philistine represents remnants of limitation; the vow to spare the king preserves the vitality of your inner light. Your true king is the I AM at the center of your being, and your inner council is the steady wind that keeps the flame from quenching. Practice seeing yourself as the light in command, choosing inner stillness over perpetual fighting, and letting imagination work as the governor of your state so your light remains bright.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and affirm: I am the light of Israel within. I revise the urge to prove myself through battles and feel the light shining, now.
