Inner Kingship at Gibeon

2 Samuel 2:12-17 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Samuel 2 in context

Scripture Focus

12And Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.
13And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out, and met together by the pool of Gibeon: and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool.
14And Abner said to Joab, Let the young men now arise, and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise.
15Then there arose and went over by number twelve of Benjamin, which pertained to Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.
16And they caught every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow's side; so they fell down together: wherefore that place was called Helkathhazzurim, which is in Gibeon.
17And there was a very sore battle that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.
2 Samuel 2:12-17

Biblical Context

Two rival factions meet by a pool at Gibeon. The day ends with Abner defeated.

Neville's Inner Vision

Consider the scene as an inner drama: Abner and Joab are two states of consciousness contending for control within you. Abner embodies the old loyalties— the Saul-dominated structure of your memory and allegiance— while Joab, and the servants of David, signal a dawning recognition of a higher authority. The pool of Gibeon is a liminal space in your mind where these rival alignments sit opposite each other. When Abner suggests the youth arise to play, notice how thought and impulse surface for your inspection; you are not asked to destroy them but to witness and allow a new governor to be seated. The twelve of Benjamin and the twelve of David symbolize the completeness of your faculties meeting under a single decision. The brutal enactment—the sword-thrusts—denotes the old self clinging to its identity and dying to give way to the rightful sovereignty within. In this reading, the defeat of Abner by David’s men marks the moment when the I AM within you asserts authority over every department of mind and heart. The outcome is not violence, but alignment: your inner king reigns, and conflict gives way to clear, peaceful structure.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and stand at the pool of Gibeon in inner vision. Assume, 'I AM the king within,' and feel the two sides yield to your central I AM, bringing a calm, unified mind.
