Pillar of Remembrance Within

2 Samuel 18:18 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Samuel 18 in context

Scripture Focus

18Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom's place.
2 Samuel 18:18

Biblical Context

Absalom builds a pillar to keep his name alive, demonstrating a self-centered memorial. The verse presents how memory and fame can be sought through outward symbols.

Neville's Inner Vision

Absalom's pillar is a symbol of a lower, outwardly focused consciousness seeking permanence through external monuments. In the Neville frame, places and pillars are inner states; the king's dale becomes a mental space where one clings to a self-image. To transcend, you must revise this by assuming the I AM already preserves your true name in consciousness. See yourself not as the one who must be remembered by stone, but as the I AM recognizing that your name—your essence—is eternally present in awareness. Feel the dignity of your true self and dwell in that condition until it feels real; let the need for outward memorials dissolve as you align with the eternal self that does the naming.

Practice This Now

Imaginatively name yourself as already remembered by the I AM; sit quietly, feel the I AM blessing you with a lasting name, and revise the memory of lack until it feels real.
