Inner Warriors of Spirit Within
2 Samuel 17:8-10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 2 Samuel 17 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
David’s men are described as mighty and unsettled, hidden away like a bear in the field; as some are overthrown, people will think there was a slaughter, and even the bravest with a lion's heart may melt, because all Israel knows David is a mighty man and his company is valiant.
Neville's Inner Vision
In the inner theatre of consciousness, the bear and the lion are not wild animals in a field but energies within your mind: a furious drive to protect, a disciplined courage ready for war, and a hiding place within the pit of awareness. Hushai’s report translates into a psychological map: fear and force are not external foes but inner movements that appear and recede as your I AM stands present. The “slaughter among the people that follow Absalom” is the projection of appearances—the thought-world crying defeat before the awareness of your true king. Yet the line about the valiant heart melting shows how the mind’s fear dissolves when the sense of self remains constant in the I AM. When you know yourself as the mighty man and recognize the band as your own thought-forms, the outer scene loses its power to overthrow you. All Israel—your inner tribe—knows the truth of your royal nature; thus every perceived threat is a mere sensation in consciousness, not a reality in being. You are the mighty man and the kingdom that stands with him is your own awareness.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Close your eyes and assume the state: I am the I AM, the mighty warrior within; feel the lion-hearted courage steady you, and let any fear melt into calm confidence as you reign in your inner kingdom.
