Choosing the Inner King

2 Samuel 16:17-19 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Samuel 16 in context

Scripture Focus

17And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this thy kindness to thy friend? why wentest thou not with thy friend?
18And Hushai said unto Absalom, Nay; but whom the LORD, and this people, and all the men of Israel, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide.
19And again, whom should I serve? should I not serve in the presence of his son? as I have served in thy father's presence, so will I be in thy presence.
2 Samuel 16:17-19

Biblical Context

Hushai’s reply shows allegiance is to the inner Lord’s choice and to the people, not to a favorite ruler; true faithfulness is aligning with the present inner authority.

Neville's Inner Vision

Absalom and Hushai stand for the outward throne and the inward fidelity that never departs from the I AM. The clause 'whom the LORD, and this people, and all the men of Israel, choose' shows that the true authority is the inner decision I consent to in consciousness, a law that governs the appearance. To serve in the presence of the son as I served in the father's presence is to honor continuity of purpose while trusting the outward form to reflect the same living idea. The I AM is the sovereign I am aware of; the king will always be the idea I affirm as real in this moment, no matter the figure on the throne. When I align with the inner choice now, fear dissolves, and there flows a quiet power through my life. So I practice today: assume the inner order has chosen the desired outcome, feel it as already real, and let the outer form follow the consistent, inner decree.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Assume the inner Lord has chosen the present outcome you desire, revise any lingering preference, and feel it real in your chest, now.
