2 Kings 4:8-10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Kings 4 in context

Scripture Focus

8And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.
9And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.
10Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.
2 Kings 4:8-10

Biblical Context

The Shunammite woman recognizes Elisha as a holy man and welcomes him, eventually creating a dedicated room for his stay. This act signals an inner commitment to host the divine in daily life.

Neville's Inner Vision

Elisha, the holy man, is not a distant figure but the living I AM moving in your field of awareness. When the woman perceives him as holy, she awakens to the truth that the divine presence is already walking beside her in the ordinary moments of life. Her act of compelling him to eat bread is the first public sign of an inner revelation—food for the soul that sustains the waking consciousness. The simple command to build a chamber on the wall is a deliberate act of consciousness: you fix a place in your mind where God can reside. The bed, the table, the stool, and the candlestick symbolize rest, sustenance, support, and illumination—all furnished for the presence of truth. And as Elisha comes to them and stays, so does your inner realization return, again and again, because you kept inviting it. The practice is hospitality to the divine idea: recognize the holy as present, allocate a space for it, and tend that space with consistent intention and feeling. Through this revision, you discover that the I AM is not elsewhere but within, and life rearranges itself to reflect that inner dwelling.

Practice This Now

Imagine a small chamber inside your mind reserved for the I AM. Feel the Presence dwelling there as you go about your day, inviting the divine to be the host of your life.
