Biblical Context
King hears the book of the law and tears his clothes in distress. He then sends officials to inquire of the LORD for guidance for himself and for all Judah, acknowledging their failure to heed the words.
Neville's Inner Vision
Here the king is the I AM within you, and the book of the law is the living standard of your consciousness. When the I AM hears those words, an old self—habit and fear—tears away like clothes being shed, making room for the new form of being. The king then commands an inner council to inquire of the LORD for himself and for all Judah, which in Neville’s terms is a decision to consult the higher Self, to ask what this law requires of me now? The great wrath is the pressure of awakening when you have ignored your true standard; it comes not as punishment but as a corrective impulse to realign with the inner decree. Repentance, then, is turning toward that law with faith, trust, and feeling it real. You revise your premise about who you are, and you let imagination translate the law into action—habits, choices, and relationships that reflect your new state. The moment you acknowledge the inner standard and move to live by it, judgment turns to mercy and your life begins to reflect the order you have accepted. Quietly invite the guidance of the I AM, feel the assurance that the book’s words govern you now, and watch your life begin to conform to that inward order.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Close your eyes, declare, 'I AM the I AM, living in exact accordance with the inner law,' and feel it as done. Then vividly envision one concrete action you will take today that reflects this alignment.
