The Inner Double Portion
2 Kings 2:9-10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 2 Kings 2 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Elijah invites Elisha to ask for anything before his departure, and Elisha requests a double portion of Elijah's spirit, conditioned on witnessing the mentor's ascent.
Neville's Inner Vision
Elijah’s question is not about a gift of power from an old man, but a cue to awaken a larger self within you. The 'double portion' signifies a heightened state of consciousness—the capacity to perceive rightly, act decisively, and hold truth under pressure. The condition 'if you see me when I am taken from thee' is the inner mechanic: maintain your attention on the I AM as your guide and mentor, even as the old self is 'taken away.' When your awareness remains fixed on that inner presence, the boundary between what you are and what you can become dissolves, and the larger portion of spirit becomes your daily reality. This is not a negotiation with fate but a rewiring of belief: you imagine from the end, and your life follows the image. The 'hard thing' becomes simply the choice to continue seeing, to persist in imagination, until the new state is formed.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Sit quietly, close your eyes, and imagine Elijah stepping aside as you, now aware of the I AM, claim a double portion of spirit as your own. Stay with the image, feel the expanded discernment and power as real in this moment.
