Biblical Context
An Assyrian king sends a large force to Jerusalem; the envoys arrive and stand by the conduit of the upper pool, while Jerusalem's officials come out to meet them.
Neville's Inner Vision
Notice how the pageant of soldiers and emissaries is not out there somewhere but a drama within your consciousness. The king of Assyria and his great host are the voice of limitation pressing upon your attention; the three messengers - Tartan, Rabsaris, Rabshakeh - represent the three faces of doubt, pressure, and persuasive reasoning urging you to yield. The conduit of the upper pool, by the highway of the fuller's field, is the living stream of awareness—the breath, the focus, the life of thought—through which images of fear try to pass. Hezekiah, Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah are not mere people but facets of your inner order: the I AM ruler, the steward of the house, the scribe who records your states of mind, and the keeper of memory. Their appearance at the meeting marks the moment your inner you speaks to the situation rather than allowing outward circumstance to define you. You can revise by invoking a Presence that remains unmoved; let the inner king reign, invite calm, and watch the invaders dissolve as thought-forms in light. The scene is a reminder that your belief, not the outer army, decides the outcome.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Close your eyes, assume the role of the inner king - the I AM - presiding over your mind, and declare that no voice of lack can rule. See the envoys fade away as you feel the steady presence of I AM strengthening your inner authority.
