Elijah and the Inner God
2 Kings 1:3-6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read 2 Kings 1 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Elijah is sent to confront the king's messengers and asks whether there is a God in Israel, warning them not to seek Baalzebub. The report confirms a decree of death for turning from the true God.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within your consciousness, the angel of the LORD is your awakened awareness. The messengers are recurring thoughts asserting allegiance to outward power. The question, 'Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baalzebub?' challenges the habit of seeking external substitutes for security. When Elijah proclaims the LORD's verdict, you are witnessing the burial of the old state of limitation; the phrase 'thou shalt not come down from that bed' signals that the old consciousness cannot return. The bed is the fixed posture of belief, the death decree is the demise of that old self, and the bringing of the new life occurs through inner alignment. Baalzebub represents the idol of external power; the king's outward world reflects your inner decree. The true revelation is that the God within—your I AM—is the sole reality. Your worship becomes turning from idols to the one Source, the eternal You, whose presence dissolves fear and makes present the promised life.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and declare: There is a God in Israel within me; I turn away from Baalzebub and embrace the I AM. Feel a warm, living sense of inner authority rising as you hold this conviction, letting the old self fade into the background.
