They first surrendered themselves to the Lord, and then to the ministry by God's will.
Neville's Inner Vision
To Neville's hearing, the verse reveals inner architecture. People are states of consciousness; the 'Lord' is the I AM, the one aware presence. They did not delay allegiance until circumstances were favorable; they 'gave themselves' by assuming the Lord as the ruling state of being. This is not charity alone but an inner alignment: the will of God becomes the order of thought, so that 'unto us'—the outward assistance or influence—flows from that interior obedience. When you truly surrender to the I AM, you open a channel through which accurate guidance and inspired action can move. Obedience and holiness arise as the natural fruit of living in the Lord's consciousness, not as external rules. Separation here is inner: separating fear, impatience, and contradiction from the one reality you now acknowledge. By this inner act, you become the vessel through which divine purpose is expressed in daily life, and the outward ministry follows as the natural expression of your settled state of mind. Remember: the one you serve is the I AM; your life becomes the will of God when you steadfastly assume that this is your true state.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes, place a hand on your chest, and declare: 'I give myself to the Lord now; I am the I AM in action.' Then breathe into the certainty and imagine acting today from that same settled state, letting the will of God guide your words and choices.
