Biblical Context
Josiah, having prepared the temple, goes out to meet Necho. He explains he fights not Judah but the house God has willed to war, and he warns against meddling with God who is with him.
Neville's Inner Vision
To me this passage is a vivid mirror of the inner man. Josiah represents the I AM within you, the conscious state that has set the temple—the renewed awareness—into motion. The outward pressure from Necho is the circumstance pressing against your current level of realization. When Josiah declares he fights not Judah but the house God commanded to war, he is naming the target of inner belief—the old structures of thought that stand between you and the complete manifestation of your temple. The line, 'for God commanded me to make haste,' is the inner imperative speaking through form, signaling that the next movement of consciousness is already authorized and necessary. The rebuke, 'forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me,' reveals the essential Neville principle: you cannot threaten the divine Presence within; you only resist your own alignment when you attempt to wrench from the I AM the next step. The true battle is with the beliefs you have accepted about limitation; the victory comes by aligning entirely with the I AM and proceeding with the inner command to complete your temple now.
Practice This Now
Imitate the scene: close your eyes, affirm 'I AM the I AM within me; I am aligned with the inner command.' Visualize calmly stepping forward to complete the temple of consciousness, and feel the certainty that God is with you in every move.
