Inner Covenant of Humility

2 Chronicles 34:23-28 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Chronicles 34 in context

Scripture Focus

23And she answered them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell ye the man that sent you to me,
24Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah:
25Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be poured out upon this place, and shall not be quenched.
26And as for the king of Judah, who sent you to enquire of the LORD, so shall ye say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel concerning the words which thou hast heard;
27Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.
28Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.
2 Chronicles 34:23-28

Biblical Context

The prophetess warns of coming judgment for forsaking God, but because the king's heart was tender and he humbled himself, mercy is granted and he rests in peace.

Neville's Inner Vision

In this reading, the 'place' is your inner state, the 'king' is your sense of self, and 'God' is the I AM that awakens within you. When you notice the place where you have drifted into fear or distraction, you may discover a tender heart ready to turn. Your act of humility—rend thy clothes and weep in symbolic terms—becomes a revision of belief: you acknowledge the misalignment, release it with a quiet breath, and declare to the I AM that you return to your true center. This inner surrender does not invite wrath but invites the I AM to gather you into peace, so you no longer "see" all the imagined evils. The moment you stand in that tenderness and trust, judgment dissolves, and mercy becomes your immediate experience as your inner life aligns with the divine I AM.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, place a hand on your chest, and repeat: 'I am the tender heart of God within me; I turn from fear to faith.' Then revise the scene into peace, sensing you are gathered to your fathers—in this case, into a calm, present awareness that rests in the I AM.
