All those names, ages, and duties in the verse are not tokens of an ancient people but symbols of your own states. The 'daily portion' is the nourishment your mind supplies to its own labor; the figures—three years old and upward—mark the growing maturity of consciousness. When you enter the 'house of the LORD' in imagination, you are stepping into your inner temple where the I AM, your steady awareness, presides. The 'charges according to their courses' becomes the principle that each faculty of your being has its rightful function, and you allocate to it a portion of attention, faith, and feeling. If you insist that your work, your worship, and your Presence are already in place, you will find your life arranged to reflect that interior order. The commandments become not external laws but inner decisions you keep because you believe them in your own skin. Your daily portion is not received from without; it is claimed within, in the very act of assuming the state of service you desire. Consciously claim the portion; feel it real; let your days run in the course you assign.
