Inner Gods, Outer Ruin: 2 Chronicles 28:23

2 Chronicles 28:23 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Chronicles 28 in context

Scripture Focus

23For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.
2 Chronicles 28:23

Biblical Context

Ahaz sacrifices to the gods of Damascus hoping they will save him; those gods smite him and bring ruin to him and all Israel.

Neville's Inner Vision

Observe how this scene reveals a universal law: when you worship powers outside yourself—gods of Damascus, authorities, wealth, or fame—you place your life in their hands. You are tempted to believe they can save you because they appear strong in the moment, but their strength is a license for your own fear and dependency. The I AM—the true you—does not require such idols to feel safe. The ruin spoken of is the consequence of giving reality to anything outside your inner state. If you would avoid it, imagine from within that which you seek as already yours, and feel it real in the present. The inner worship is not denial of the world; it is the discipline of returning attention to the only power that never abandons you: your I AM. Let your mind rest in that awareness and watch as the outer circumstances rearrange to reflect your inner state rather than your plea for external help.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and declare I am the I AM; all power and guidance are within me now, resting in that living awareness until lack dissolves. Then revise any reliance on external gods by silently affirming I choose within; my world follows the inner state.
