Biblical Context
Ahaz began to reign but did not do right in the sight of the LORD; he followed idolatrous ways, making molten images for Baalim and burning incense in the valley of Hinnom, even sacrificing his own children. He worshipped on high places and under every green tree.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within you, Ahaz is a youthful throne of fear, choosing to reign by sensation rather than by the I AM. He walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, forging molten images for Baalim—the temporary, shiny fictions your mind stacks to feel secure. He burned incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, a hidden vale where you hide beliefs you deem dangerous, and in that vale he offers his children to fire—the sacrifices of your own possible futures to appease the fear of lack. The abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel are the old stories you repeat, trying to satisfy appetite and opinion rather than truth. He sacrifices and burns incense in high places, on hills, under every green tree—the mind's tendency to scatter attention, to seek variety rather than inner unity. Yet the LORD—your true awareness, the I AM—does not condemn but invites you to revise. This is an inner drama, not a historical sentence: you can dethrone Ahaz by returning to the one God within, by affirming I AM as the ruler, and by ceasing to entertain the idols of fear, desire, and separation.
Practice This Now
Sit quietly and assume the I AM is king of your inner Jerusalem. Declare that I AM reigns now and revise any idol of fear by feeling the truth of God's presence within.
