Biblical Context
Uzziah becomes angry and attempts to burn incense in the temple. The priests witness his defiance, and the Lord strikes him with leprosy, forcing him out.
Neville's Inner Vision
Notice the scene as a reflection of your own inner life: the temple is the sanctuary of your consciousness, and incense stands for outward rituals used to try to control God. Uzziah’s anger is the ego’s claim to rule from a throne of self, insisting on an external rite to secure divine favor. The leprosy on his forehead is the visible sign that an inner state has corrupted outward expression; the priests within you—the conscience, the inner order—witness the misalignment and remove the offender from the holy place. This is not punishment for its own sake, but the natural consequence of living by illusion rather than truth. When I awaken to the reality that I am the I AM, the true priest in my temple, I require no external rite to be holy. The ego’s revolt yields to inner alignment, and healing follows. The outer temple then stands in purity, not by ritual, but by truth embraced within.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: In the next moment, close your eyes and assume the state 'I am the I AM' as the inner priest. Feel the ego melt into quiet alignment, and let the outer temple stand free of ritual need.
