Inner Sanctuary of Humble Worship

2 Chronicles 26:16-18 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Chronicles 26 in context

Scripture Focus

16But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
17And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the LORD, that were valiant men:
18And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
2 Chronicles 26:16-18

Biblical Context

Uzziah grows strong in pride and enters the temple to burn incense, overstepping his rightful role. The priests rebuke him and affirm that incense is for the Aaronic priests, not the king.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within you, the scene unfolds as a test of alignment. Uzziah’s heart, when it grows strong, lifts itself into a place it cannot rightly occupy—the temple, the incense, the very act of worship becomes a proclamation of self rather than God. This is your inner moment when the I AM seems to be overshadowed by a personal will to be seen, to rule, to dominate. The four score priests appear as steadfast facets of consciousness—the conscience that rebukes, the discipline that keeps holy order, the humility that yields to divine function. They declare that the incense belongs not to the king but to the priesthood consecrated to burn incense; they bid him leave the sanctuary. In your inner world, pride fades when you notice the natural law of your being: true worship arises from proper function, not posturing. The “temple of the LORD” within is a sanctuary of alignment, where the I AM governs and the ego yields. When you accept your rightful place and revoke any usurpation, destruction becomes averted and true holiness is restored.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: In stillness, assume the role of the inner High Priest; revise the impulse to usurp with the sentence: 'I AM the temple; the I AM burns through me only what is proper.' Then feel the presence of divine order moving through your sanctuary as you breathe in a rhythm that says, 'I am,' and the scene reorders itself.
