2 Chronicles 2:1-9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read 2 Chronicles 2 in context

Scripture Focus

1And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.
2And Solomon told out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.
3And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou didst deal with David my father, and didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell therein, even so deal with me.
4Behold, I build an house to the name of the LORD my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the LORD our God. This is an ordinance for ever to Israel.
5And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.
6But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?
7Send me now therefore a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.
8Send me also cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees, out of Lebanon: for I know that thy servants can skill to cut timber in Lebanon; and, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,
9Even to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I am about to build shall be wonderful great.
2 Chronicles 2:1-9

Biblical Context

Solomon resolves to build a house for the name of the LORD and for his kingdom, gathering vast labor and skilled craftsmen to furnish it. He acknowledges that the Creator cannot be contained, yet dedicates this temple to worship and service.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within the text lies a living mirror: you are invited to build a sanctuary in your own awareness. Solomon's project is your decision to erect a temple for the Name of the LORD—the illuminated I AM—within the theater of your life. The laborers, the overseers, the cedar and timber, they represent faculties and resources you possess: order, discipline, creative craft, beauty, and leadership, all at your command when you assume the state of your kingdom. Greatness of the house signals the greatness of God within you; yet the line 'the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him' invites humility: you are not petitioning for God to dwell outside you, but showing that your awareness can honor Him through steady worship and love. When you call for the craftsman to work in gold and silver, you are naming the refined aspects of consciousness—the noble aspects you want working in harmony under your authority. You also call timber from Lebanon—the sources of supply in your life—your connections, opportunities, and talents cooperating with your vision. The question 'Who am I?' becomes an affirmation: I am the imaginer of this temple, and so I create.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Close your eyes and assume you are already dwelling in the temple. Feel the I AM as the interior sun, and invite your inner faculties—craft, order, wisdom—to work in harmony toward daily offerings of gratitude.
